Solar in Kendall in 2026: FPL, reference pricing, and tile roofs

Which utility serves Kendall, and does 1:1 net metering apply?

FPL. Kendall is an unincorporated area of Miami-Dade County, and all of it is FPL territory. The rules are FPL’s: each exported kWh is credited at the same value as one consumed (1:1 net metering), surplus rolls month to month, and in December FPL settles the leftover at its COG-1 rate, the average cost of generation. How much does a solar system cost in Kendall in 2026?

How many sun hours does Kendall get?

TurbineGenerator does not publish Kendall; the Miami reference is 5.2 peak sun hours per day on a fixed-tilt panel, and Kendall is a few miles away with the same climate. Roof and hurricanes in Kendall: tile rules

Kendall is in Miami-Dade’s High Velocity Hurricane Zone, with a 175 mph design wind. That alone requires product-approved mounting and engineer calculations. On top of that, much of Kendall has clay or concrete tile roofs. Tile is not drilled like shingle: it is lifted, a hook or base with flashing goes in, and the tile is reset. HOAs in Kendall: what they can and cannot do

Kendall is full of HOA communities. Florida Statute 163.04 prevents an HOA from prohibiting solar collectors or having rules that effectively prevent them. It can require an architectural application and set roof placement as long as it does not impair effective operation (south or within 45° east or west). If they deny without basis, the statute awards costs and fees to the prevailing party. Bring the layout, orientation and estimated production to the application: it shortens the conversation.
