The uncomfortable truth
Insulation is invisible, so nobody sells it with enthusiasm. But it is one of the best cost-to-benefit upgrades in Florida, and usually costs a fraction of a new A/C.

Attic R-value
How much thermal resistance is already there. Many Florida homes are well below the recommended level.

Radiant barrier
A reflective layer under the roof deck that lowers attic temperature in summer. Very effective in Florida’s climate.

Air leaks in ducts, outlets and light fixtures. Sealing often pays as much as adding insulation.

Insulating without ventilating creates moisture problems. They are reviewed together.
